The Great Shutdown of 2013!

Our Eco-Footprint Challenge team

Grades 3-5 Multi-Age.

Our goal

We will reduce our Eco-Footprint in carbon by reducing the use of electricity.

Our idea

We can cut our use of electricity by using solar lighting instead of electric lighting.

Our plan

In order to reduce our Eco-Footprint, we decided to measure the amount of electricity we use as a school. We found that we use a high amount of carbon through the use of electricity.

We have come up with a plan to reduce our carbon footprint by turning off classroom lights on sunny afternoons when we can use solar lighting. We will make schoolwide announcements to turn off the lights on those days so that everyone will take part.

We will measure our energy use at the end of this project to see how much we were able to reduce it. We also want to explore solar panels as an option for helping us make more areas of our school energy efficient.

People helping us

Our teachers Kari Stranberg. Olubusola Stackhouse, Daniel Stranberg and Kisha Zamor, and our head custodian Charles Ervin.
